Judges respect parliament, president: CJ
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Ifikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that if parliament had endorsed the November 3 action of former ruler Pervez Musharraf then judges would have not been sitting here.
A nine-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice heard the memogate scandal case on Thursday.
The Chief Justice refuted some media reports, saying that various reports in newspapers regarding last day’s proceedings were not correct. He sought newspapers to give explanation otherwise reports would be made a part of judicial order.
He said that judges respected the parliament and they never talked about failure of the institution. Justice Iftikhar said that president is a respectable man and the head of the state, adding that the judges had not remarked to impeach him.
Meanwhile, the counsel of Hussain Haqqani, Asma Jehangir argued that she has no concern with the conflicts between government and opposition.
She said that petition was not maintainable for hearing.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said that president, prime minister and Husain Haqqani did not negate the existence of memo, adding that all respondents wanted investigation into the scandal.
Asma Jehangir replied that the memo was only a piece of paper written by an American and handed over to other Americans.
